This decorative love spoon was handcarved in southern Wales from lime wood. The treble clef symbolizes the musical aspirations of the receiver or giver of this spoon, and the small heart carved in the clef is in keeping with the tradition of the love spoon.
The custom of carving and giving Welsh love spoons as tokens of love originated in the rural areas of Wales hundreds of years ago; the earliest known example is from 1667.
Since each love spoon is carved by hand, they vary slightly in size and shape.
